Here’s what residents of The Samarkand had to say about the quality of our care and commitment. Below are excerpts from actual notes sent to us by individuals in our Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing programs:
“Dear Friends in Physical Therapy,
I think I may be going home tomorrow and wanted to be sure that I had the chance to thank you for the wonderful care you gave me. You were the bright spot in my stay here. Forgive me for my sometimes weepy manner. When I watched others in here, I became so aware how small and insignificant my situation is/was. Thank you for your patience with that—I imagine there were times when you wanted to say to me: “Come on, buck up!”
I watched you as you treated each person with such kindness, tenderness and respect. And you certainly gave that to me! You are a class act—completely professional and caring. It was a great privilege to be under your care!
With deep gratitude,”

“To the Great Team of the Smith Health Center,
How can I begin to thank you all for the care and patience given to me here these last 6 weeks. Firstly, the most cheerful staff. Then the team of nurses. The team of aides. The food service. The excellent therapy. The drivers & cleaners and more! It all played a big part in getting me to the next stage of full mobility. Many thanks—I will be seeing you! “
– Janet Millar
Keep in mind, you do not have to be a current resident of our retirement community to benefit from our Assisted Living, Memory Care, Skilled Nursing or short-term Rehabilitation services. In our short-term rehabilitation program, we accept Medicare and are in-network providers for a number of managed care and Medicare Advantage programs.

Did you know there’s a way to support the causes you care about while being mindful of your taxes?
For individuals age 70½ and older, a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) allows you to give directly from your IRA to a qualified 501(c)(3) charity without paying federal income tax on the amount donated. For many retirees, a QCD may also satisfy part or all of their Required Minimum Distribution (RMD). In 2026, individuals may give up to $111,000 annually through a QCD, with the limit indexed for inflation.
It’s one of several strategies that can make charitable giving both meaningful and financially thoughtful.

Residents often share that supporting Benevolent Care reflects what community truly means to them.
Supporting Benevolent Care is important to us because this is home — a community we care deeply about.
We believe in residents supporting residents and in ensuring that compassion and dignity remain at the heart of daily life. Benevolent Care exists quietly, offering reassurance that neighbors will continue to be supported, even during life’s unexpected moments.
For us, giving is about legacy. It’s about helping preserve the sense of security, belonging, and connection that makes this community such a special place to call home. bit.ly/482ZgDD
